2011 january calendar for download by BECKY JOY

"DAWN" JANUARY 2011 CALENDAR

Haven't gotten your calendar yet? You can download the month of January right here. Each month of the year I will choose one of my paintings. I will post it on the home page of my website the last week and first week of each month. Any other time you will have to go onto my website under "fun stuff" where you will be able to download the calendar. The calendar is set up to print on an 11x14 portrait style paper.

I was thinking about which painting to use for the first month, my first endeavor in this. I chose this 8x10 plein air which is titled "Dawn". I felt that was an appropriate title for the beginning of a fantastic new year for all of. So download as many copies as you want or send the link to a friend. This is just one more way that I can share my art with you. It's yours for free to keep.

Here is the link: http://beckyjoy.com/
Have a great New Year! I'll talk to you all later.

Happy New Year's Even and Comfy Red Chair, Palette Knife Artist, Judy Mackey

"Comfy Red Chair"
10 x 10 inches, Oil on Board
Available

Oh the year is ending - what a terrific year it was!  Instead of going out and partying all night I think I'll just take it easy like this painting depicts...

This is one of my favorite poems and I like sharing it at the end of the year:

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?

For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp !
and surely I'll be mine !
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pu'd the gowans fine ;
But we've wander'd mony a weary foot,
sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie's a hand o' thine !
And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027
Oil on 22" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas
This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a dark piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Have a great day! Kay

Sunset snow scene by BECKY JOY

Sky #39 $125. 5x7 oil on canvas panel,
free shipping in US, free display easel.

The sky is the limit or is it unlimited. An odd saying for what it means. Today I did this little snow scene. I wanted to keep most of the painting in high key, so the tree is it, the dark with the brightest spot, the sun, next to it.  There are a lot of grays in the painting with the colors as a whole becoming cooler as they move away from the sun. I put the group of trees in the background to help balance the painting.

I took plenty of photos of this painting as I was painting it. The process of painting this one will be in my e-book that will be coming up, so check back for it. I hope to have it done by the time I send out my newsletter, which I'm waiting for the first of the year to do. I've had a couple of people let me know that they miss it and where is it. Its coming, I promise. So much to do.

Well, on to working on that e-book.

Talk to you all later.

I have a new tool box.  I promise to take pictures. We bought it late yesterday but could not unload it in the rain. Hopefully today we will do it. It replaces my wire basket thing and it is strong and rolls where ever I need it.  So today I will be moving it into the studio and beginning sketches on the 5 ft by 5 ft painting for my Arizona collector.  Also will try to finish up my plans for my upcoming workshop.  I think I will have one here in Mt Vernon and one at Dena Wenmoh's Ranch at the Bunkhouse.   Dallas is still not ruled out either. Eventually there will be two or three guest rooms right here at the lake in our home and you will come here to work in my studio with me.    Again if you have not emailed me to let me know you want the schedule, do so now. Email me that you are interested in receiving the workshop information.  Email here

OH yes, stop by the CFAI site and see the final work posted for the December Art Challenge. The winners will be up by January 1st.

I sold this 11"x14" painting the other day.  I had fun painting it.  It's a palette knife painting with lots of texture, giving it quite a bit of dimension.  This is from a scene in New Mexico where I vacationed several years ago.  I must have taken two thousand photos for reference material.

Sky #38 desert sky by BECKY JOY

Sky # 38  6x6 oil landscape on canvas panel
$125. free shipping, free display easel
to puchase click here.
I know the sky doesn't have a lot going on in it. It is really about the ground on this one, but I'm going to post it as sky #38.
I started the painting as an abstract shape for the shadows linking them together. All paintings have as their essence abstract shapes to hold the painting together. I then started adding the light on the ground and details with few details in the shadows. The sky was next laying down a golden pink at the horizon and more on the right, then cad red with titanium and lastly, at the top I layed in alizarine crimson and titanium. After that was all down I then went over the sky with ultramarine and titanium keeping it lighter at the horizon. This grayed the sky, but kept it warm with the reds under it.
I'm starting to get together some images for an ebook that I will be putting together along with the progression and explanations for my reasoning and choices. Hopefully, it will be ready within two weeks. The hardest part is for me to remember to stop painting and to take a photo.
Well, onto more painting today.
Talk to you all later.

I'm back to work today. The computer this morning and painting this afternoon. Its getting to be a routine.  I hope that all of you had a great holiday. Now its diet time. OMG way too much food, but it was so good! My daughter cooked and she really is a good cook.

I'm doing some goal setting for my business for next year. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday and today planning a writing things down. I think I've got it. I may post my goals and that will make me more accountable and follow through. At least, that's what I'm thinking.

So, about dinner time and time to quit for today. Talk to you all later.

I had to finish it off with the red moon.  It has been 372 years since the last lunar eclipse with a beautiful red moon. "A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth aligns between a full moon and the sun, blocking any sunlight from reflecting off the moon's surface."

One of the articles I read was how someone commented that God gifted us with a beautiful early Christmas present.  I could not agree more.

"Flower Urn in the French Garden", by Karla Nolan, palette knife, brush oil painting, linen panel

I am not 100% positive of this, but I think I recall this garden scene, complete with old and large flower urn, at Chateau de Chenonceau in France.  I do remember being in awe of such a gorgeous garden, replete with shade, sun, arches, urns, and amazing flowers.   I'd got back in a mere flash if it were only possible!!!

"Symphonic Twilight" Aspen Tree Paintings by Jill Saur

© 2009 Aspen Tree Paintings, Jill Saur Fine Art, all rights reserved

This acrylic on canvas aspen tree painting, "Symphonic Twilight" is 36"x48".  I am mesmerized by the aspen trees in the snow.  My inspiration for this painting comes from the winters that I spent in New York when I was a little girl.  I would gaze at the snow, the stillness, and the shadows of the trees on the icy ground. In this hectic world, it is nice to be reminded of being still. I invite you to become a collector of my work.  Please visit my website and see what my patrons have to say about owning my art.

"The Cher River From Chateau de Chenonceau", by Karla Nolan, palette knife/brush oil painting, linen panel

I must say I am very pleased with how this painting turned out.  Green is the most frustrating color with which I work.  There are so many shades, hues:  blues, greys, yellows, all play into the different shades of green.  Reflections are also a huge challenge.  You think:  oooh, I got it right this time, you step back, move forward to fix....maybe now?  All in all, painting is just one major analytical challenge!  But I still enjoy it!  Go figure!

This part of France, the Loire Valley, is enchanting.  The Chateau de Chenonceau is a huge castle; the grounds were as lovely as the interior.  If you have the opporunity, put it on your "must see" list and go backwards in time.

"Snow" Winter Landscape by Jill Saur

This acrylic painting is sold, but I am posting it to share my love of painting snow.  I can't even count all the snow scenes I have painted over the last thirty years.  My earliest snow scenes were painted in watercolor and were mostly birch and aspen trees in the snow.  There is something magical about a nice quiet winter day with the ground covered in snow.  To me, the pristine white snow is a reminder of new beginnings.  I have done many commissioned paintings of clients favorite places in the snow.  Please contact me if I can accommodate you in this way.  I also have pieces that are already available to purchase.

Waiting For Santa by Roxanne Steed

4"x4" oil on gessoed masonite artboard

"This is my wish for you; peace of mind, prosperity through the year, happiness that multiplies, health for you and yours, fun around every corner, energy to chase your dreams, joy to fill your holidays!"
- D.M. Dellinger

"What is that cat looking at out there...elves?" I always wondered what she saw when she stared out the window for hours! Another in my series of tiny gems this season, "Waiting For Santa" is a 4"x4" oil on gessoed masonite board, available on-line, directly from me. To purchase this work, or see other available paintings, please visit my DailyPainters.com gallery store.

*****Ongoing - Here in CT: I have three paintings juried into the Lyme Art Association "Deck The Walls" show, which runs from Dec. 10th- January 8th 2011. I am honored to be able to take part in this show with some of New England's finest painters!

And in southern CA: If you are in the San Diego area, you deserve to treat yourself to a drive up to the Keys Creek Lavender Farm in Valley Center. They have special weekend hours in their farm store this month, just one more weekend! I have five of my small paintings of the farm available there. Friday and Saturday hours are 10am to 4pm. Once you've been there, you'll wonder why you waited so long to go visit!

I'm currently taking commissions for next year - 2011- if you have a special pet, event, memorable place, that you'd like to commemorate!

This is #34 in my series of skies. I used a photo for the road and tree grouping as reference. The photo was in the middle of the day, so I chose to change the atmosphere to a sunset. I liked the angles of the road and trees so I used angles in the clouds also.
