1543 Red Sky at Night

This was one of those paintings that I start off using a toned panel, I had all this leftover red paint that I couldn't stand to waste.  I thought it looked like a sunset and then I did the oak tree in front of it.

Its 8 x 10, oil on masonite, $200.

When You Wish Upon a Star...
32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

This painting has been in holding part of a show and this is the first time I have to share it with you. This painting almost sums up 2013 but it was painted in June last year. It was so darn much fun to paint this one... the energy was huge in the studio, music was country and a mix of gospel... and the colors just fell into place exactly like I felt... the dark of night and the light from above providing the path.

We had just returned to the DFW area almost a year ago. It was March 25th and I still marvel at the wonder of being home and closer to family.
God is good, all the time, God is good.

This painting is available through Davis&Co Gallery in Spring, Texas. The Gallery has it's grand opening the last weekend in March.  I hope to see you there then.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

A bit more whimsical with this one but I really liked the way the paint moved and literally I saw the horse. Subtle earth tones and suggestive paint paths create a harmonious balance for the eye.

Hurried on time today... painting is calling me.

Color Jungle Cottage ~ Flower Paintings and Cottage Garden Tours by Nancy Medina

Color Jungle Cottage Garden - Detail
20X20
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Color Jungle Cottage Garden is under construction in Flower Mound Studio tonight, based on the beautiful cottages of Coronado Island in Southern California. I'm super excited to be taking my students on a tour of these gardens during my flower painting workshop in San Diego, August 1-3. The flowers will be in bloom and we'll have plenty of opportunities to fill up the memory cards on our digital cameras and astound our husbands by how quickly we can subsume every millibite-thingy-ma-bob of space on our cell phone cameras, while we're at it! I've reached that awkward point where I have to make everyone posing for a photo "hang on a sec" while I delete 10 items in order to have space to take one more photo. Am I the only one in this predicament? Are there support groups for people like me?

This will not deter me from filling up a few more billy-bytes of space on my camera in August when we tour my favorite picket fence flower gardens each afternoon after class. I'll be taking my students on a tour of my top 10 favorites. Let's paint flowers and wiggle our toes in the sand together in sunny California!

"Heightened Awareness" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

Heightened Awareness III ©2014 Niki Gulley
48" x 36" • Textured mixed media on canvas

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a violet blue sky filled with big, puffy clouds. And, by arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery are enhanced.

Wandering Through by Kay Wyne

Wandering Through
48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is drying at the studio...a contemporary floral landscape bursting with color and texture.  I have been working on this canvas for days...with layers and layers of paint.  The scene is a wide view of wildflowers wandering through the landscape.  The sky is heavy with paint and texture.  Because this painting is on thick stretcher bars/gallery wrap canvas, framing is optional.  This is a great size canvas to hang above a sofa or fireplace.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Tango Tangerines by Marion Hedger oil painting

Tango Tangerines by Marion Hedger
Still Life painting
Oil on MDF panel

Another clementine painting, this time with a dark red/brown background. To keep the background translucent I mixed the paint with liquin. This was very effective and I think I will use this again. I also manage to keep the background from getting too heavy which is sometimes a problem for me. Different styles call for different approaches. When using my palette knife I generally like a highly textured thick background but I thought that would be too much for this painting.

Demonstration Ad Nauseum? by Pamela Blaies

Still Life Study in Light
12" x 9"
oil on linen

I promise this will be the final blog about my first venture into demonstrating in front of a live audience. Since my last two blog posts discussed the upcoming event, you might have guessed I was a little apprehensive about it. But once I started painting, the nervousness just melted away. I only had about an hour to work, but the Weatherford Art Association was a great crowd and it was fun discussing my process as the painting unfolded. Here is the painting from that night.

I love to share my art and inspiration. Click HERE to sign up for my email newsletter and receive a free gift of postcards.

Blue Range Abstract Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Blue Range
9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Here.

This was part of the three paint from left over Acrylics as well. The colors are stronger and the layers are higher.  There is a tussle and a compromise with the color palette and the movement of the knife.

Compromise is something important in life as well... finding a compromise means adapting to the needs of someone else. A lesson open to the current generation is really stuck on the selfies. Growing away from self and opening your life and heart to serving others leads to happiness.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1John 4:4

"Gallery Wall" by Hallie Kohn Art

I've been having so much fun with art lately, and decided to finally get some things on the wall in my kitchen. This poor wall has always been in transition, going through the phases with me. I finally feel like I have a selection of art that I love, with enough variety to creat a gallery wall. The piece that was the starting point was the rooster, as he brightens up and adds a nice contrast of color to the walls.

Gallery walls are very easy to create for those larger walls where you want some interest and a perfect way to display smaller pieces. And don't worry, if you love them, they ALL go together!

"Crackling Sky" by Karla Nolan

I can almost smell it in the air, springtime is around the corner, although you may not believe it today in my part of the woods -- it's gray and cloudy but warmer than it has been -- I'm just waiting for the sky to open up with rain, get a few bolts of lightning up there, roar of thunder.  Of course, I am jumping the gun, the official date is three weeks away for the season change and here in Colorado, the real date may as well be May.  I am such a dreamer!  (The top photo is the original painting, the bottom is an example of it framed.)

Spring Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Spring
9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Paintings by L Pace

Usually my paintings are bright and full of contrast. This morning's painting is thick and rich with energy contrast in the pulls of paint. Some of the paint is a quarter inch deep.  This will take until late March before it can ship, but this horse painting is available, along with others directly on my website, or visit my galleries for larger paintings.

Terry has been busy up in the garage. We have an attic space up there but only a tiny crawl space to get up there from the garage. Inside the house we have a huge walk up access to another attic area, but this one is special.  He intends to put a door in a room that backs up to this huge space and make this area a huge closet. It is actually large enough to be a full reading room or play room for a child. Not sure where he gets the strength to be up there right now as it is 28 degrees outside and a cold cold wind makes it feel like 12 degrees.

I am thankful this day for the extra special things that we seem to not realize we have in our lives....from tucked away hidden attic space, to the simple hand hold at the kitchen table this morning over oatmeal. Make those little things count extra big when you give thanks today.

1542 Farmer Brown's Potting Shed Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted here on Tuesday, just getting around to posting it tonight.  I had a lot of fun painting it, I kept finding more little details to put into the painting.  The plants on the left are pineapples and there is a papaya tree in the center.

After I painted I was taken on a tour of the garden and got to sample some kale, nasturtiums, violas and various other vegies.  I have had kale cooked before and didn't like it but I liked it raw.   Bought some nice rhubarb, lettuce and Swiss Chard.  Its all pretty much eaten up already.  I made a rhubarb crunch, there is just one little piece of that left and a bit of the lettuce.

The painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches, $250.

Vast Horse #7, $100 Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014

VAST
9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Here.

I love using left over palette. I have been working on a buffalo painting and of course these are some of the strongest colors in the painting and I had 'leftovers' on my palette.  There is a natural flow to both the color and the movement which is really neat to me as I rotated the canvas adding colors not really paying attention to the patterns or overlays. The composition is as strong as the single horse as a strong foundation behind the 'etching' of the horse.  Touches of Lavender, reds, oranges, mauves and turquoise season the painting.

9 x 12 inches, this freshly painted oil is Horse #7 in this years 100 Horses for $100, but please note NOT in 100 days.  These are so creative and magical to me as I paint them, I want to keep them fresh and unforced. This is a second series, with the first 100 horse series being released in summer 2012 and all 100 pieces sold.  I am thinking next year it may have to change for pricing to be adjusted up as well as the number completed.

Fun to collect.

Ribbons in the Sky White Tulips is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, based on the tulips of the Dallas Arboretum. I love painting white flowers. There are so many colors in white, purples, greens, yellows, blues. In color theory class at university, our final exam was a still life of all white objects. The professor brought in about 100 items and placed them on a huge table in the center of the room. Read more...

"Aqua Dreams" Palette Knife Aspen Tree Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Aqua Dreams” ©2014 Niki Gulley
36” x 60” textured oil on canvas

When we arrived at this tranquil spot, the early morning light was very cool in color, but as the sun began to rise from the horizon, it shone this beautiful warm light that shimmered on the water’s surface and cast its hope of what was to come from the brand new day. I remember the peacefulness I felt in that moment, and a sense that anything was possible. In Aqua Dreams, by showing the contrast in the cool aqua/blues in the foreground waters against the warm golden glow on the distant pond’s edge, I wanted to share that feeling of hope and promise communicated by nature.

Tender Rain Hydrangeas is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, celebrating a new vase I received from a dear friend. You are invited to join me for my June 21 workshop at the Dallas Arboretum. I love teaching flower painting in the most beautiful gardens in Texas, and this will be a great time of year to get dozens of flower photos during the lunch break! Okay, dozens is a conservative estimate. I've been known to fill up an entire cell phone's worth of memory in 2 hours at the Arboretum before. My husband seems to find this quite astounding, though I'm sure all of you, my flower fanatic friends, are sympathetic to the cause....!

Available by auction on Daily Paintworks

This little abstract started life as left over paint. Using my palette knife I laid in the left-over paint in large blocks. I put it aside for a while and yesterday I noticed it again and I was drawn to it and this idea of girders/construction site came to my mind. Needless to say, I had more left over paint when I had finished.

Being abstract it will look good any which way - which way would you choose?
