New "Spring's Glory," Texas Hill Country oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Spring’s Glory," Texas Hill Country ©2015 Niki Gulley
36” x 60” textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

“Spring’s Glory” was inspired by a trip to the Texas Hill Country. The spring conditions were perfect, and the bluebonnets were amazing! While we were near Fredericksburg, we took a scenic drive along the Willow City Look and as we approached the top of a hill about half way around, we were greeted by this gorgeous view of the rolling hills and bluebonnets in full bloom. Then, to top it off the sun was setting in the distance casting its golden glow and backlighting the wildflowers. I had to capture the magical moment, enhancing the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky and along the ground. Arranging clouds, the road and rows of bluebonnets in rhythmic sweeping shapes to create a harmonious landscape that flows with light, texture and color, and suggest a feeling of optimism about what’s to come.

"Spring's Glory" along with several of my new palette knife paintings will be featured in my One Woman Show, hosted by the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. If interested in more information on pricing or purchasing this palette bluebonnet painting, please contact The Good Art Company.

Abstract Landscape Painting | Contemporary Art | Palette Knife Painting | HUES by Carol Schiff | 18x36x1.5" Oil

I wanted to do an abstract landscape in a larger size than I have worked with in the past.  I remembered driving through the fields of Georgia just as the sun broke over the horizon one morning, and decided to paint based on that memory.

I enjoyed the experience of painting on a larger scale and tried hard to keep the freshness of my smaller abstracts.

We used to say that photos never lie, but as you know, that is not true these days.  I just returned from a short trip to New York City with my daughter and grandson.  He had lots of fun taking photos that lie.  This is one of my favorites.....

We also walked by a sports show being filmed on TV.  That is my grandson in the background, making like the circus strong man.  Hope they didn't mind!

New "Fall's Carnival" by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Fall's Carnival" ©2015 Niki Gulley
30" x 40" textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas

Painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives so that this canvas is loaded with texture and bursting with color, flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this landscape to be filled with movement and vivacity, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. One zig zag passage of crimson foliage creates a focal point in the tangle of leaves and turnks while adding energy to the scene. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

"Fall's Carnival" along with several of my new palette knife paintings will be featured in my One Woman Show, hosted at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. If interested in more information on pricing or purchasing this palette knife aspen tree painting, please contact The Good Art Company.

An original 6" x 6" oil painting on museum-quality gessobord™ panel

March 30, 1853
Dear Vincent,
How I have missed you. I would have telephoned earlier, but the telephone won't be invented for 23 years and then there's that embarrassing ear thing we won't go into.

How I wish your brother, Theo, was able to sell your beautiful paintings. He is still an art dealer in Paris, right? His job is to sell art, right? And you are his beloved brother. Sometimes, my dear, I think he sends you art supplies just to shut you up, that slacker.

Nevertheless, my dear Vincent, I am sending you this cupcake for your birthday, but dearest, please remember that it is an oil painting so don't eat it. I fear that if you do eat the cupcake painting I am sending for your birthday, my darling V.G., the chemicals used in its creation could drive you mad.

Fondest regards,
Joan

A happy birthday and an homage to a great artist, Vincent Van Gogh. He never dreamed he would become this famous, after all, rumor has it that he only sold one painting during his lifetime. And his brother, Theo, was an art dealer in Paris, no less.

This cupcake has quite a history, click here to view previous posts about it. Be sure to scroll down and click Next or Previous to see more.

At Last by Kay Wyne

At Last
24" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Needs a frame.
This still life painting was inspired by the beautiful violet tulips that were in the studio last week after the reception and exhibit for Lynn Rushton.  A celebration of Lynn's Master's Thesis brought so many of her friends and family together for a wonderful evening.  This floral arrangement was one of several that spoke to me...and so I am dedicating this painting to Lynn finishing her Master's Thesis.....At Last.  Feel free to contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Figurative Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Into The Blue" by Carol Schiff, 8x6" Oil

I have been wanting to do this figurative painting for a long time.  I remember the day I saw this young girl wade into the Gulf of Mexico, wearing her hat.

purchase here
97 + shipping
It was blinding hot and I was tired and thirsty.  I shot a photo of her and went in search of shelter.  The image was in my files for years before I pulled it out, and painted it, last week.

It is the first figure I have done with a palette knife, (quite a struggle) but in the end, I am happy with it.

I have to admit, I get lazy.  I always feel the figure is a stretch of my sketching skills.  Instead of doing more of them, I shy away......the wrong thing to do!  I am happy I finally tackled this figure and my goal is to attack them more often.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Small Seascape, "Stormy Beach Day" by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Oil, Palette Knife Seascape SOLD

Living in Florida, we get lots of sunny days.  This time of the year, it is normal for what starts out as a sunny day to suddenly change to black, threatening clouds, as the cool sea breezes collide over land
SOLD
with hot air from the west.  When that happens, it's time to run for cover as the effects can be fast and violent.  The last place you want to find yourself is on the beach as we live in an area fondly known as "Lightening Capitol of the World".  Every year we read of people who are struck with lightening and often do not survive.  On this day, we quickly ran for our car as the clouds rolled in.  I was happy to get a few shots of the storm.

I tried to capture that moment when the clouds roll in with the azure water quickly turning dark.

Thanks for reading my blog today....hope you have a great week.  Oh, by the way....please pin it!

Spring Fever Pink Tulips
by Nancy Medina

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Spring Fever Pink Tulips was one of five class demonstrations during my workshop in the Texas Hill Country this weekend. Visiting Fredericksburg, Texas, is always a treat, and we were just on the verge of what may be the best bluebonnet bloom season in quite some time, thanks to the wet winter that is behind us now. Students from Ireland, Michigan, Colorado, and across Texas painted tulips, hydrangeas, sunflowers and French landscapes, fueled by fresh fruit kolaches and cookies made from scratch, courtesy of our talented multi-tasking energizer bunny hostess Jane!

I did emphasize to everyone our holiday theme, encouraging everyone to come up with a few bunny jokes, because, everybunny needs somebunny sometime, right? Take a peep at my new Web Site to a see a slide show of the students hard at work!

And here's a little joke for you!

What is invisible and smells like carrots? Answer - Bunny farts!

The classroom models take a bow!
